Sonia posting for Sarah again. Here are Sarah's words from her journal, remember, with our time change it's 8:35am there on November 8th as I'm posting this (8:50pm here on Nov 7th in the US, central time):
November 7 - Namche Bazaar 5:48pm
It's too soon...I'm not ready to talk about it...but this is how to get down the real deal. We got up at 5:45am, breakfast at 6:30 and hit the trail at 8am.
All said and done we hiked for 8.5 hours, 8.5 miles, 3635 ft of ascent, 948 ft of descent. It was a day where the "grit & compassion" came to life for this team. I had a migraine most of the day, likely due to elevation, but found my pace and remembered two sayings given to me:
1) find the place in your brain where pain doesn't matter
2) you've done harder things
I got my mind in the right place and just kept putting one foot in front of the other and I got it done. Arrived in Namche Bazaar just about 4:30pm. We got to our room, I took my Imitrex and crawled under the covers for a bit. Right now I'm in the dining hall with the team. There's heat in here. We're taking advantage of it while we wait for dinner. After this we'll head for hopefully hot showers and bed.
Tomorrow we hike near Namche for a shorter hike and will stay here tomorrow night as well. Looking forward to an easier day and some recovery time to prepare for what's ahead.
