Yesterday felt like heaven on earth. Few moments veered from that but there was so much of what felt like magic. After closing out the previous day with night sky views I got to sleep in until about 7:30am. We had breakfast at 8am and then didn't start our hike until 10am.
The hikes always start out feeling tough but once I found my groove my heart and whole being just felt unbelievably happy as I soaked up every step and the views. I put an earbud in one ear and heard some Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Lukas Nelson - that never hurts. :)
Today seemed simple so I'll keep it that way. Enjoy these pics from the hike.
Love these panos:
And I'm totally in love with this black and white:
I took this 360 video just amazed with how vast these mountains are:
Along the hike I stopped and talked with Daniel from California who is also on his way to Base Camp. He told me that by the next level spot I'd be higher than Mt. Whitney - the tallest peak in the lower 48. That was pretty cool and I snapped a quick pic when I got there.
Then there was the dog that followed us the whole hike:
We didn't do the full hike yesterday. Our group has had some challenges and our guide decided a shorter hike would serve the purpose of helping with acclimatization.
I was ok with that since for lunch I ordered a classic; grilled cheese & tomato soup.
Next up was sunset! We hiked right back up the same trail as we went earlier in the day. I set up my GoPro for a time lapse. Wish I would have let it go a little longer but I couldn't believe how amazing it turned out. Heaven on earth for this sunset addict.
After that we came back, ate dinner, and I went to take a shower. The water pressure was piddly and the water wasn't hot and the bathroom was freezing. I threw hand warmers on bath wipes to warm them up a little and called it good enough. This morning I pulled out the dry shampoo and am now 3 days into this shirt and at least 4 on these pants. Just keeping it real with y'all!
Today we trek to Lobuche. About 7 hours up to 16,108 ft of elevation. This is when it really starts to get tough, but we take it slow as a team and our guides watch for everyone's safety. With that...bring on Lobuche!!
And goodbye to our little home in Dingboche."
